Irish Distilleries, Popes Quay, 1964 (Former IDL Bottling Plant)

The IDL bottling plant which is situated off the North Mall has recently been purchased by UCC, it was the home of ‘Paddy’ whiskey and the plant was developed by Cork Distillers Co in 1964, as part of a modernization plan. The office block is particularly noteworthy in its use of color and neat window and staircase detailing. The semi cantilevered reinforced concrete porches are also significant. The architect was Frank Murphy and it was constructed by PJ Hegarty and Son.
