Tucked Away in Baltimore
House Extension and Remodeling, The Cove, Baltimore, Co Cork
FMP were commissioned to design and project manage an extension to an existing house in Baltimore, as well as a complete remodeling of the existing house and the landscaping. The extension consisted of a new living area on the ground floor and a new master bedroom on the first floor. The extension was finished in a combination of smooth painted render and copper which will naturally change colour over time. The works were completed in June 2012.
“I have a holiday house by the sea in Baltimore, Co. Cork that I inherited from my parents. My family and my brothers and sisters have been holidaying together there for years. As the family grew with marriages and grandchildren, we decided to extend the house very substantially. (In truth, the place needed to be gutted and very substantially rebuilt.) We wanted to keep the character of the house and wished to extend it with a large new bedroom and sitting room. We also wanted underfloor heating and solar water heating. The design to achieve all this was very complicated, particularly to provide access to new bedrooms and new showers in the roof area.
We appointed Peter Murphy of FMP Architects as our architect and entrusted him with the design and build. He produced an absolutely brilliant solution which met all of our requirements. He also advised on the appointment of the contractor and supervised the rebuild.
We live in Hong Kong and so had to rely on Peter to oversee and organise everything. All was completed beautifully, on time and within budget. Several years have now past since the rebuild and the house is as good as new.”
