Alzheimer Day Care Centre
As architects, we often face challenges that require us to balance functionality, aesthetics and sustainability in our projects. But sometimes, we also have the opportunity to design spaces that can make a positive difference in the lives of people who need it most. That was the case when we were commissioned to design a daycare centre for the Alzheimer Society of Ireland, a national non-profit organisation that provides support and services to people with dementia and their families.
The Alzheimer Society of Ireland operates over 120 services across the country, including daycare centres, home care, family carer training, social clubs and advocacy. The daycare centres are one of their core services, as they provide dementia specific, person centred care to meet the needs of the person with dementia in a warm, welcoming and safe environment while providing support and stimulation. The centres also offer respite and relief to family carers who often face high levels of stress and isolation.
